I love it whenever my country makes it into the world news. Loved it when Jimmy Choo, Ling Tan, Michelle Yeoh and Zang Toi made it big out there in the world. Makes me feel so proud of my country everytime I see sentences such as "So-and-so is a New York-based Malaysian fashion designer", or "So-and-so is a Malaysian fashion designer based in London, United Kingdom". My country has so many talented people!!

My country also recently made it into a popular British daily. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that huge icon for me to click on to bring me to that particular news article about my country...

I thought news of Shirley's chain-smoking habit was just gonna stay within the confines of those Malaysian dailies and not go viral all the way to the UK.

The news from UK's The Daily Mail begins with "A trip to the zoo should fill any animal fan with a sense of joy wonder, but in Malaysia the experience inspires revulsion".

Did you see that? Huh, huh? Did you see my country name?

"Crocodiles struggle in waterless enclosures while lions and tigers are trapped in boxes barely big enough to house them, leaving no room to roam around".

There's also another sentence in that article that says "The government-run zoo in Johor Baru has erected a 'no smoking' sign but that will do precious little to stop the sad practice while attendants turn their backs on it".

Psst, Daily Mail Reporter, whoever you are. I've got news for you...... Monkeys can't read "no smoking" signs, especially those who ride on cheap motorcycles and snatch handbags from innocent women.

If you type "snatch theft" in Wikipedia, you'll be directed to a Wiki write-up that gives special mention to Malaysia. I've uploaded that page here in case someone edits that page after this for certain censorship purposes.

I foresee a budget of RM100 billion very soon to renovate and beautify these zoos- RM10 billion for each zoo. It will be a large-scale 10-year plan with renovation and construction taking place simultanesouly at all 10 zoos. Upon completion, zoo visitors will get to visit and play in the most high-tech zoos in the world. Launching date: 20.2.2020.

It seems a new law was passed last October for our zoos to "clean up their act" in 6 months, but when the deadline passes, "there will have been shamefully little progress made".

The past whole week had been quite eventful.

Prince William is finally married. From the cute little boy whose late mother had doted on him so much to this almost-bald gentleman that he is today, the journey of his life has been very interesting thus far. Can’t wait to see how his kids look like (might not be too long a wait).

I can’t believe Osama bin Laden is dead… again. I thought I read from somewhere that he died 10 years ago. Nevermind. Whatever. Not like the world is getting any better with him dead and gone. Just don't want to hear that he's suddenly alive and well somewhere out there a few years from now- like some kinda predictable Hollywood movie trilogy with the superhero hailing from the United States of A.

I also can’t believe Mariah Carey just gave birth to twins and named them Moroccan Scott Cannon and Monroe Cannon. Not surprisingly, a few creative ‘uns out there soon came up with cute nicknames for those twins: Roc and Roe, Mor and Mon (MorMon).

If you Google for the word "cannon" through Google Images, you also get to see pictures of cannons and the Cannons (Mariah Carey and hubby) appearing on the same page. Not sure what images will appear if you key in "Moroccan Cannon" (I don't want to know).

I’m just glad she didn’t name her twins Moroccan Carey-Cannon and Monroe Carey-Cannon.

Oh my gosh. I’m blogging again. Must be due to boredom. Or the sudden impulse to write really ridiculous stories that not many people would want to read about.

There’s a certain country out there that has got so many insane perverts living and breathing in it that the People in Authority have had no choice but to declare that all express trains MUST have at least one coach specially designated FOR WOMEN ONLY.

Any created being not remotely resembling this woman creature thing in certain ways is not supposed to be in this coach specially designated FOR WOMEN ONLY.

This is one amazing country where strange men can suddenly stop their cars right next to you while you’re walking alone by the roadside and have them stare at you while you stop right where you are to stare back at them before they finally drive away. This is a true story that happened to the silly girl whom I see in the mirror every day when I wake up in the morning. Don’t tell my parents about this.

This is also one awesome country where fun-loving Christian men from the Boys’ Brigade can ridicule you for not being able to defend yourself after you got harassed by a non-woman thing at a somewhat secluded area. This is also a true story that happened to my parents’ only daughter. I pray you forgive me for saying this out loud, you two particular fun-loving, church-going peeps from the Boys’ Brigade. Or you can rain down your execratory excoriation upon hapless me once again because you know I don’t talk back, whichever.

Anyway, back to this train ride scene thing.

Didn’t these two obviously-non-women notice anything amiss while waiting for and boarding the train? Those “FOR WOMEN ONLY” signs were practically EVERYWHERE in two different languages at the designated “FOR WOMEN ONLY” area.

Poor fellas. Wonder how they could’ve felt when they finally realized they’ve got onto the wrong coach for this train ride of a lifetime (even unluckier to be in the same coach with me standing nearby). And they could move neither left nor right because there were TOO MANY WOMEN around them. Only choice left for them was to blend in with the crowd until they got off the train.

Must've been quite an empowering, exhilarating journey for these two men in this fast-moving, expensive vehicle... surrounded by women...

My Vacation

As I slowly walked along the corridors of this building, a few people turned around to look at me, wide-eyed and curious. Their movements were awkward and a few of them would react in manners that could somehow momentarily frighten anyone who was encountering these people for the first time.

From where I was standing, everything around me almost felt like a completely different world.

It was a hot and balmy afternoon, and the ceiling fans were making strange creaky noises in the old building.

One of the rooms that I entered had me surrounded by somewhat lifeless-looking bodies staring straight at the ceiling. Many had their hands and legs tied up for their own safety. The only trace of life in them was that of the sudden twitching of their eyes.

They’ve been born that way. And most of them are the unwanted children of young mothers who had wanted to get rid of these kids through self-induced abortions that had failed (i.e.: unauthorized consumption of abortion drugs, thus affecting foetal development). Left with no other choice but to carry on with their pregnancies, these young mothers very soon left their newly-born deformed babies to be cared for by this centre. The word “Quasimodo” instantly came into mind…

In one corner of the building, a scrawny little girl sat hunched on her bed… she rocked herself to and fro, clapped her hands, bobbed her head uncontrollably and screamed… and as I approached her, she smiled, held my outstretched hand, and stopped screaming.

Evelyn was eleven-years-old but she had the body of a kindergartner. As I held her, I could feel her protruding backbones against my fingers. She grabbed my fingers and started staring at them… and then she started clapping the palm of her hand against mine. She had spent her whole life on that bed and never known what was outside… Yet I hear certain psychos telling me, “You should go out more and be badder… Enjoy life more!” (Sure, I’d truly enjoy it if you’d jump off a bridge or something… hooray) \^.^/

“The people here don’t realize what they’re doing. They sometimes injure themselves. How would they know? They’re born like that. Sometimes, when they’re depressed and frustrated on their beds, they scream very loudly. But the neighbours complain and report us to the authorities…” one of the nurses said.

I didn’t know how to respond to what the nurse had said… and I wasn’t sure how many of those sensitive neighbours (who own kinda nice houses) go to churches and temples to pray on a consistent basis… I really don’t want to know…

And so it suddenly occurred to me: “Why do people who supposedly look and dress normal actually act and talk in a totally more retarded way than those who are physically and mentally less fortunate?”

Whoops, sorry. Wrong sentence. Again!

Rephrase:

And so it suddenly occurred to me: “Thank God for all the wonderful simple things in my life…”

JG recently attended a function. JG met this guy at the function...

Channel News Asia newscaster, Steven Chia

This guy happens to be a popular news reader for Channel News Asia.

Started in 1 March 1999, Channel News Asia is a major Asian news broadcaster with programmes telecast to more than 20 Asian countries and territories.

Mr. Newscaster and I spoke to each other during the function (because it wouldn't have been polite to have just ignored everyone around me).

Being the amazingly gifted person that I am, I smiled and told Mr. Newscaster, "Oh wow, I had no idea you're a newscaster..."

Oh blimey... Did JG just say that?

Mr. Newscaster probably almost dropped dead onto the floor because JG didn't know who he was.

Then again, JG usually gets herself into somewhat strange, awkward situations (eg: happily wearing jeans into Malaysia's so-called high-class "no jeans allowed" college and getting verbally assassinated by the college's Operations Manager- read story here).

Showing off your alma mater’s logo on any merchandize is one good way of telling the world how proud you are of the college/university where you used to study in. From T-shirts to ear-rings, mugs, wallets and even watches, the logos embellished onto these items reflect the college/university spirit and pride that you feel so honoured to let people see. Good publicity from a proud graduate, isn’t it?

It’s that kind of situation where your eyes just well with tears of joy and heart go aflutter with all kinds of wonderfully warm, fuzzy feelings each time you think about the college/university where you once studied in…

…and you’ll vow to forever ensure that your alma mater gets your fullest support in any way possible once you’re capable enough of financially giving back to your beloved college/university for old time's sake: “Here, take my money and do what you can to help make the institution bigger and better!”

It's almost like loving someone so much you just want to stand in any public place or on a high-up mountain to shout out your love for that one person... sort of...

Gail Peek, '84: I found The Law School an amazing experience. I learned so much from the faculty and my peers. Some of these lessons were not always pleasant or positive, but they were all life lessons that helped me. The legal education I received at the Law School enabled me to handle many legal issues I encountered. I recall surprising my colleagues with my ability to utilize legal reasoning and research techniques to assist clients with complex issues. I want others, especially minority students, to have the same opportunity I had. I also want the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic to continue to break new ground in representing those less fortunate than me. Thus, supporting the Law School is a very easy decision. How could I not?

Greg Coules, '95: Quite simply, having gone to both the College and the Law School I have a quite a fondness for the U of C. Having come from modest means, the University was extremely generous with scholarships and other financial aid during my entire career there.

Sigh. Just imagine yourself as one of the highest-ranking employees of that university- either as a chancellor, dean or president. How would you have felt? You’d probably feel just like a really proud parent with successful and grateful kids who can now give you lots of money and attention in return for all the love and care you’ve once shown to them.

Unfortunately, over here in many Malaysian private higher education institutions, students who haven’t even graduated from their programmes just feel like desecrating their chosen colleges into the ground. Just before they could even complete their studies, a whole lot of these students would already be wishing for huge asteroids to hit the college and destroy the whole building when nobody is around- or simply any tragedy of Armageddon proportions.

Asteroids hitting APIIT-UCTI? Even better if Anthony’s the only person in the building.

Once these students complete their studies, they wouldn’t even want to associate themselves with the colleges they once studied in. Many, just like me, wouldn’t even dare to brandish any object that could somehow reveal the identity of our alma mater (especially APIIT-UCTI), unless when totally unavoidable during situations such as job applications and job interviews.

Many, just like me, would express our anger through online student forums, form online college hate groups to tear the college image apart, and upload pictures of terrible-looking college facilities on public websites. Why? What has gone wrong? Don’t these students and graduates feel any sense of belonging and love for the college where they are spending and have spent so much money on?

Princeton Pride

Why so much unnecessary anger from so many students towards just any one Malaysian college that has failed to instill this simple sense of pride and belonging into these students’ minds?

Use your brain, Anthony. Use your brain… If you have one.

I’ll try to control myself from coming up with too many blog entries about APIIT-UCTI after today’s entry. I’ll try…

What really surprised me this week was that quite a number of APIIT-UCTI students/graduates had shared about their painful experiences at APIIT-UCTI in the comments section of my blog entry here, albeit anonymously. I feel slightly comforted as I’m not the only victim of APIIT-UCTI’s chariot of calamity led by a lusus naturae that goes by the name of Anthony.

I’m surprised nothing can be done to reprimand Anthony from going to extremes when students commit the very slightest of “mistakes”. “Mistakes” that are sometimes so trivial you just can’t believe they’re actually seen as serious crimes when students are confronted by Anthony. Anthony clearly has no whatsoever decent experience when it comes to dealing with Generations Y and Z kids.

Perhaps Anthony’s son is married to Dr. Parmjit’s daughter, hence his attainment of immunity each time he verbally abuses a student (ie: nepotism)? Perhaps Anthony is Dr. Parmjit’s ~~fuck budd~~y golf buddy (ie: cronyism)?

I've been informed that even the college bus drivers listen to Anthony’s orders to catch students who dare to defy him. The fact that Anthony is so unbelievably irremovable from his throne really, really perplexes me. Which top guy or notorious underworld figure is Cow-dung Anthony closely connected to?

All abused APIIT-UCTI students from the past and present should do themselves and the rest of the world a huge favour by NOT positively recommending APIIT-UCTI to any prospective student after this. Be warned, ye prospective customers of APIIT-UCTI. The only few types of people who'd go around saying nice things about APIIT-UCTI would be APIIT-UCTI employees, students and education consultants getting paid commissions to recruit new students (one of those marketing strategies employed by many Malaysian private higher education institutions).

Recently, many students cried foul over the new decision by God-knows-which-bigshot to have the students pay RM 5.00 each time they park their cars at the new APIIT-UCTI car-park. When this issue was brought up to Anthony, one of the students commented in a forum that Anthony simply said it’s “none of my business”. Oh well. What can Anthony do? He’s only a mid-level manager pretending to be Jesus Christ/ God Almighty within the confines of the APIIT-UCTI building. Pretenders can’t raise the dead nor turn water into wine.

I had always encountered parking problems each time I drove to APIIT-UCTI last time. It was SO DEPRESSING just to try to look for a decent parking space.

We can actually have an APIIT-UCTI beach party here, baby! Oh yeah! This is the most happening college in the world, woo hoo!! Anthony can come dressed in nothing!! (Worst nightmare, seriously)

One student joked about APIIT-UCTI being a “scenic lakeside campus” due to this strange phenomenon of rivers and lakes forming at the car-park each time after it rains.

Another student complained about having to pay RM3.00 each time his car is parked at TPM.

Whether the parking fee is RM3 or RM5 doesn’t matter (I remember being charged RM5 for my parking, even for only 1 hour). What matters is that students are being heavily taxed on a consistent basis each time they drive to APIIT-UCTI for their classes. RM3 or RM5 is just about the cost of a decent meal from any college canteen.

To rub salt, chlorine and acid to the wound, once the students park their cars, they still have to wait for APIIT-UCTI’s bus to transport them from the car-park to the main campus. Here’s how they queue up:

What if it had been a rainy day? I don’t see any shelter here for the students. The only solution is to run back into their cars and drive to APIIT-UCTI, not knowing where to park their cars after that (APIIT-UCTI has extremely limited parking spaces). Or miss their classes for that day because of this parking problem.

There’s clear and present danger in every nook and corner of APIIT-UCTI. You also go through horrifying parking experiences within the area where the campus is located.

Anthony will never apologize to me and all the students whom he had unnecessarily abused before. One can only hope he'd die a miserable death one of these days.

*This is a story written from the viewpoint of a young woman horrendously bullied by an APIIT-UCTI long-term bigshot employee... for a mistake she didn’t realize she had committed… This horrifying account had been immediately written down while the incident was still fresh in mind…

I was sleepy and tired. But I still had to drive 45 minutes from my apartment to APIIT-UCTI that day. It was 10 February 2009 (Tuesday), and it was a hot afternoon. It’s really not easy to work from 8:00 a.m. until sometimes 7:00 p.m. every weekday while working on your postgraduate studies, driving 45 minutes to attend evening and weekend classes.

I was only supposed to spend about 15 minutes or so at APIIT-UCTI that day to renew my expired student ID card and meet up with my dissertation supervisor for a short while. But I got a whole load of shit from one violent man that day…

Upon reaching APIIT-UCTI, I directly walked into a place where I had previously always walked into to get my various college administrative matters settled (eg: cert collection, student ID renewal). Unfortunately, when I walked into that area, I realized that the Administration Office had been relocated. APIIT-UCTI has this strange habit of relocating its offices on a regular basis when I was there.

“Hi, I’ve been away from APIIT for a while as I had been busy with work. Where can I go to renew my student ID card since it’s already expired?” I asked a somewhat lost-looking young girl sitting outside an Indian man’s office.

The lost-looking young secretary mumbled one word, “Downstairs,” and went back to staring at her computer screen.

I walked down a flight of stairs as informed by Dopey-Chinese-Secretary-Girl and walked myself into a little state of confusion…

What "Administration Office"?

So where’s the place where I can go renew my student ID card? I only see the canteen. So I decided to go back to reconfirm the directions with that silly young girl.

I should’ve just bravely walked up to one of those foreign students at the cafeteria to ask for directions to the Administration Office, but nooooo, I decided that this Dopey-Chinese-Secretary-Girl might be able to give me clearer instructions this time since she’s, after all, an APIIT-UCTI employee. So I walked away from the cafeteria, back to the office where the Dopey-Chinese-Secretary-Girl hangs out in (the very same office where the elusive Administration Office used to be located in).

So I got back to the office where the Dopey-Chinese-Secretary-Girl sits in, ‘cos it’s one of the first places you notice the moment you arrive at the doorsteps of APIIT-UCTI, located at Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil.

This time, Dopey-Chinese-Secretary-Girl took my student card, realized that it had already expired (duh, didn’t I tell her that earlier on?), and directed me to a smart-looking gentleman sitting in his office. And then I realized how true it is that a person may appear smart at first, but only until he starts speaking. I thought this very kind-looking Indian gentleman was gonna help me solve my predicament and finally tell me where the bloody Administration Office is so I could have my student ID card renewed and then meet up with my dissertation supervisor.

I sat down opposite this kind-looking gentleman, smiled at him and said I wanted to look for my supervisor and also renew my student ID card but wasn’t sure where I should go.

To my horror, the first thing the bespectacled, mustachioed Indian man at the office did was verbally attack me and ridicule my attire- blue jeans and blouse. He said it’s always been a rule that jeans are not allowed at APIIT-UCTI.

But I had always noticed other students and lecturers wearing jeans! Lecturers in jeans, usually during weekends. So I assumed it’s OK to walk in wearing jeans on any other day because I WAS ONLY GOING TO BE THERE FOR A VERY SHORT WHILE.

At the rate things were going, this Indian male baboon sounded like he totally wanted to throw me out through one of the glass windows surrounding his office. And I didn’t even know who he was! FUCK YOU, APIIT-UCTI INDIAN MAN!!! I was still an official postgraduate student of APIIT-UCTI when you verbally screwed me just to show how powerful you are. How dare you!

How could you expect me to NOT walk into the college building and still contact my dissertation supervisor, my dear Anthony? I didn’t have her number. What did you expect me to do? Shout out for my dissertation supervisor, Ms. Rohaini, and expect her to communicate with me from the highest floor of the building whilst I’m stuck on the ground floor because you refused to allow me, a legal APIIT-UCTI postgraduate student, to enter the college building? You didn’t even volunteer to call her up from YOUR office phone, you selfish bastard baboon. And you didn’t even bother to contact anyone from the Administration Office to verify whether or not I’m a student at APIIT-UCTI despite APIIT-UCTI’s claims of being the best Information Technology institution in Malaysia. You wouldn’t even allow me to enter the building. So much for customer service from a STUDENT ADMINISTRATION MANAGER! Why were you so mean to me? What had I done to you? You don’t even know me. And I wasn’t even rude to you at all when I walked into your office! In fact, I even smiled at you. But then, you just had to start screaming at me!

Incensed at this Indian man’s rudeness towards me, I said in an almost raised voice, “Look, I’m not here to hurt anyone, okay? I’m just here to look for my supervisor. I’m already almost done with my dissertation. After this, I won’t be here anymore. I just want to meet up with my supervisor, that’s all. I won’t be here anymore after this.”

I kept on repeating “I won’t be here anymore after this”, my voice tinged with regret and sadness for having APIIT-UCTI treat me in such a dismal manner. I kept on repeating “I won’t be here anymore after this”, hoping that Anthony would stop verbally abusing me even though he’s only met me for the first time.

“Take her IC. Give her a visitor pass…” the Indian baboon rudely ordered his silly young secretary from his office as I was about to walk out from that place.

I walked out with my legs trembling… And was in a state of extreme confusion when the APIIT-UCTI security guard took my personal identity card from me.

While walking at the canteen, still very badly shaken after being verbally screwed by that Indian man, I saw my former lecturer, Ms. Margaret. She’s always been such a kind lady. And she personally walked me down a very much hidden staircase that led to the Administration Office. I think she noticed how dazed I had looked when I spoke to her.

I finally managed to get to the Administration Office, but was ignored by the staffs at the counter who refused to maintain eye contact with me though they had already noticed me because the whole place was crowded with students shoving one another, with many students jumping queues as well. For such a so-called high-class college, APIIT-UCTI doesn’t even have a proper queuing system. I waited until someone else (Lilian) appeared from out of nowhere to approach me as she had probably seen me standing there for too long already while other staffs attended to students who entered the office after me.

I finally got to talk to someone at the Administration Office counter. When I requested for my student card to be renewed, one cute girl at the counter replied, “Need to renew meh? But the guard won’t really check the card…”

I almost felt like kicking myself, and everyone else around me when I heard the girl saying that…And I felt like killing that Indian man who scolded me for having an expired student ID card.

WHHAAAATTTT????? What kind of an answer is that? What do you mean by “the guard won’t really check the card”??! I was almost thrown out from APIIT-UCTI by a violent Indian man because of an expired student card which I had so nicely asked to be renewed, treated like a terrorist, ridiculed like a social outcast…. and now you’re telling me that “the guard won’t really check the card”??? What is wrong with APIIT-pUCTI????!!!

APIIT-UCTI stands for “Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology- University College of Technology and Innovation”.

The Executive Director of APIIT-UCTI is the famous Dr. Parmjit Singh. I once saw him walking around APIIT-UCTI at around 10:00 p.m. after my evening class just ended.

A lot of students say Parmjit looks like Saruman, from the “Lord of the Rings”.

When I was suddenly scolded by Anthony because of my jeans, I didn’t even know his name. My progression as a student at APIIT-UCTI never required me to have any direct dealing with Anthony. Tragically, through an unwanted twist of fate that one afternoon in February 2009, I ended up in Anthony’s office to have him verbally fuck me upside down.

Anthony boy, I don’t see your name in the Sapura Board of Directors listing. So why do you act as though you own APIIT-UCTI? You’re only a mid-level manager at APIIT-UCTI.

His smile hides the fact that he's nothing but an arrogant bastard with horrible diplomatic skills when it comes to dealing with students.

I came to a conclusion about Anthony. He’s a Student Administration Manager. Yet, he doesn’t sound as though he’s qualified and capable enough to deal with good and bad students. He only knows how to show off how powerful he is, being one of the longest-serving employees at APIIT-UCTI. Having worked at APIIT-UCTI for so long, he already knows many college procedures and the “ins and outs” of all the rules and regulations of APIIT-UCTI. Hence, his amazing ability to easily confuse students who end up having to deal with him in his office, and always make sure he wins every argument with any student.

He’s probably already such an indispensable long-term employee of APIIT-UCTI that he’s possibly been granted immunity from ever being chastised for being rude to any student.

Perhaps the fact that Anthony is able to bully any student according to his whims and fancies provides him with an orgasmic sense of power and authority, something that he’s not able to experience at home because he’s never allowed to be on top while in the bedroom.

There is no point in complaining about Anthony to any “higher authority” at APIIT-UCTI because he IS the “higher authority”; the middleman between the customers and main players of APIIT-UCTI within that glass building. I have a feeling this Anthony has been at APIIT-UCTI for many years already and will continue to sit in his comfortable, spacious office for the next 20 to 30 years. He is the kind of person who knows the exact sugary-sweet words to say to his superiors, and just about any hurtful word in the world to little children who dare not question him. I have worked long enough to understand the exciting psychodynamisms of Malaysian office politics and Anthony fits the description of such a jerk.

No matter what complaint you may have against him, he’s invincible and will remain unfazed because he knows who to be nice to in order to safeguard his position within the organization. Complaining about this Anthony’s uncouth behaviour towards you is akin to complaining about a secretly sexually-deviant, morally-corrupt, and abnormally-decadent church bishop, in the sense that nobody will ever want to believe you because the bishop is supposed to be a holy man… and you’re seen as nothing but a sinful piece of rag going around telling everyone how your rights as a human being had been violated by this supposedly holy man... you can keep on crying and ranting about Anthony’s misdemeanours and nobody’s ever gonna take you seriously.

Merely Verbal, Nothing Concrete

From the information I had garnered from former coursemates, Anthony is in charge of matters involving exam dockets, student clothes, bus transportation complaints, international student visa matters.

I came across a blog from an APIIT student who went through a difficult time “complaining” about APIIT-UCTI’s bus transportation problem to Anthony. Read about this student’s story here.

The APIIT-UCTI bus problem had been going on for a long time. But Anthony’s simply not dealing with the complaining students in a professional manner. He prefers to show off his talking skills and managerial-level authority. I don't foresee Anthony efficiently handling this bus problem anytime soon. He'll continue to collect his monthly salary, as generously paid for by all of APIIT-UCTI's students.

I also came across another blog from an APIIT student who was also given a difficult time by Anthony. The arrogant talking style from the student’s audio recording sounded exactly like Anthony. Read: “APIIT Admin is good at diverting information”.

I've seen many APIIT-UCTI girls wearing VERY SHORT SKIRTS before. One male friend who followed me to APIIT-UCTI once remarked, "Wow, I wonder how these girls sit down without exposing themselves too much down there. I was just thinking about this while you were busy with your presentation."

My friend's a church cell group leader. I can't believe APIIT-UCTI girls in short skirts just made his mind all confused during one short visit. And no, he wasn't allowed to enter APIIT-UCTI because he wasn't an APIIT-UCTI student. He had to sit outside the building while a sleepy-looking guard sat at the building entrance to occasionally bark at anybody he felt like barking at. I told my friend to NEVER consider studying at APIIT-UCTI.

I’ve seen a girl at the APIIT-UCTI canteen wearing three-quarter jeans before. I couldn’t take her picture because I didn’t want to be accused of being a stalker.

A student from the forum extract above confidently shared his view about many APIIT-UCTI students walking into the building wearing jeans (Click onto picture above to view the slightly shocking forum extract). These students are lucky enough not to have met Shithead Anthony.

This is obviously a very fucked-up college managed by very fucked-up small-time managers with very bad attitude problems.

Conclusion

F*ck you, Dr. Parmjit Singh a/l Meva Singh (Email: param@apiit.edu.my/ param@ucti.edu.my). How’d you end up hiring so many morons to work for you? I didn’t spend almost RM40,000 just to be tortured and ridiculed like this. I might as well have spent that same amount of money on a solo expedition to inner Antarctica for a wonderfully torturous, chilling experience. Bloody hell.

Student Administration Manager? WTF? Being a “senior staff” at APIIT-UCTI, Anthony might know the Standard Operating Procedures of almost everything he had learned up through the years in the organization, but in terms of dealing with students, he’s a totally retarded dingbat in that area. Which kind-hearted soul promoted him to that level and kept him there for so many years?

I’ve been an “Exemplary Prefect” before back in high school. I’ve also been awarded a “Best Employee” award once before at my workplace. I know how to be good and not misbehave! No need to scream and shout at me!

Chinese New Year 2010

*I’m not exactly done with that story about one sick college that gave me hell during my postgraduate years there. I’m still trying to make the story sound a bit humorous, but it’s kinda difficult when you’ve been so badly bullied by the college employees there not too long ago. That story should be up after this entry. I’m just going to talk about red, scarlet stuff today.

I’m not exactly a big follower of Chinese superstitions. But sometimes, certain superstitions and taboos might just cause one to chuckle in delight due to the humorous nuances associated to them.

Who would’ve ever thought that round and oval windows in ancient China were associated with whorehouses… It’s true, I’m not kidding you. I just read an article about this and was kinda momentarily surprised.

I also know of one person whose house is always bedecked with lots and lots of red lanterns throughout the year. And more red lanterns could be seen outside this person’s house during Chinese New Year. This lady’s so totally into ushering in luck and prosperity. Besides, RED is always the “numero uno” lucky colour one should wear during Chinese New Year.

Many households may hang red lanterns above their threshold to usher in good luck for the coming new year. But while these exotic-looking lanterns may be suitable during the festive season, they are supposed to be removed after Chinese New Year. Why?

Because…

Red lanterns used to be hung by brothels in ancient China to announce the nature of their business! Hence, the term “red light district”- if you haven’t been told about this story yet.

Talking about red lanterns, the colour red has been associated with prostitution for millennia. A Bible story had Rahab, a prostitute in Jericho, aid the spies of Joshua and identified her house with a scarlet rope. Nevermind the complete story about Rahab, Jericho and all. Just focus on the scarlet-coloured rope thingie from that story. We’re talking about red, scarlet stuff today.

The colour scarlet is usually linked to not-so-nice things. A “scarlet woman” would either mean a “prostitute” or an “immoral woman”. Do read about “The Scarlet Letter” too.

There is one particular woman whom I would love to refer to as being an insane scarlet woman. I visited her family for Chinese New Year this week for the purpose of showing that I still care about her in spite of her pathetic, grumpy demeanour. She’s never nice to her foreign maid.

While attempting to carry on with a normal and smooth-flowing conversation with this insane woman, her foreign maid walked into the living room with three glasses of rose syrup, coincidentally something red, or perversely scarlet.

Perhaps this insane woman had been torturing and abusing her foreign maid too much. So much torture and abuse to the extent that this maid could possibly had been feeding the whole family with tainted food and drinks all this while…

…because as I was halfway through drinking the rose syrup, I saw something resembling a fingernail floating somewhere below the glass. And it wasn’t my imagination at all. I know what I saw.

I immediately started praying… Oh blimey… What an amazing, red hot Chinese New Year. Rose syrup with floating fingernail…

Just be nice to your foreign maids. Otherwise, you’d end up having mysterious foreign body parts and secretion dropping into your food and drinks when you least expect it.

Red envelopes or “ang pows” are one of those things kids and strange people like me look forward to every Chinese New Year.

Last year, my parents took me to visit the family of Mr. and Mrs. K in a quiet little town. My family has known this couple for the past many decades. They’re a lovely old couple. And I got a little “ang pow” from Mr. and Mrs. K, much to my delight.

This year, my parents took me to visit Mr. and Mrs. K again. I was thinking about my little “ang pow” all the way during the journey. ~~What a greedy pig JG could be sometimes…~~

When we arrived, my jaw almost dropped. I saw many people in white T-shirts sitting outside the residence of Mr. and Mrs. K.

“Mum, what’s going on?” I asked.

Everyone knew about Mr. K passing on just a few days ago, except for me. No one told me anything because everyone assumed that I had already been informed about it. I felt slightly relieved as I had worn a white blouse on that day. You’re not supposed to wear red clothes to a funeral as it is considered a taboo. I didn’t even know I was supposed to be attending a funeral wake that evening. Geez.

Prohibited during funerals

A few days before Mr. K passed on, he had already been very ill. All of his family members had come back for the usual Chinese New Year family reunion.

“No, I don’t want to leave you yet,” Mr. K had told Mrs. K a few days ago (they’re both 90 this year).

What Mrs. K told her late husband really got me feeling all mushy and sad: “You’re going through a difficult time. You’re not feeling well at all. Your children and grandchildren have all come back to see you because they’re all on holiday now. Don’t make them leave the house and then have them come back again very soon when you can’t hang on anymore. Just let it go while they’re all still around…”

So he did.

Sigh.

This year’s Chinese New Year is just totally different from that of previous years.

Oh... my... gosh... I can't believe I managed to survive for so many days without depending on the Internet!

The sign in the picture above was found in a quiet little town. It says:
Religious Activity, Funeral Wake/Rite is not allowed in this concourse. Offender could be fined up to $5,000/-.

That sign could've looked pretty strange to many tourists. But I was recently made to go through even weirder things. And once again, it's about my terrible encounter with the college employees from the education institution where I got my postgraduate qualifications from...

This blog shall, for the time being, serve as a channel to "warn" the public of this education institution's horrendous customer service. It's identity shall be revealed soon (not today, unfortunately)...

The most recent email I received from this hopeless college was that of all my certificates finally available for collection. So, my reply to them was this:

Dear Ms. PQR,
Is it possible to have my certificate couriered to my home? I don't think I owe "this college" any money anymore and still has my student deposit under my college student account (probably can be deducted for the courier fee). I am currently not in Malaysia.

And then came this very educated and astounding reply:
Dear j,
As for the library deposit, you have to come to "the college" library to do the refund. As for the cert, we will normally send by registered post for free. If you want courier then you will have to charge you for that. Please let me know your decision.

I hate it when customer names are addressed in small caps (eg: Dear jack, Dear janice) when it comes to formal correspondences. I hate looking at careless grammatical errors too. Sorry, can't help picking on those employees' minor mistakes now.

With that, I immediately launched an online tirade against this college since based on my work experience, college students who throw tantrums tend to get what they want much faster than anyone else:

Dear Ms. PQR,
I'm not able to check how many certs I have not collected as I won't be at home for the time being. Hope "the college" has a record of that though. But what's most important now would be the Masters cert and complete transcript.

I would prefer to have the certs sent by courier though but if this is really not possible due to "the college's" rules and regulations, then yes, go ahead and send by registered mail. I can't understand why the courier amount can't be deducted from my student deposit. "This college" can keep my deposit for all I care- it's an amount that could be more than sufficient to send me lots of documents by courier a few times. It won't be feasible for me to go back to "this college" to personally collect my deposit by now anyway. (Flight tickets, darling)

Sorry to sound so cynical. My experience with "this college" has gone completely downhill after a few very bad encounters with certain other administrative staff for very strange disciplinary reasons.

And the certs were immediately sent out by courier the next day itself. However, the chances of me ever getting the opportunity to collect my student deposit now is completely nil. ZERO! ZILCH! NADA! This supposedly high-class college has never heard of mailing out deposits to former students through the usage of bank drafts or cheques. Strange...

After I was informed about my certs already been sent out to me, I thanked the lady as such:

Thanks, Ms. PQR. Send my regards to Tan Sri XXX. He really likes to ridicule students/customers, doesn't he?

Ms. PQR got a bit curious about what "Tan Sri XXX" had done to me, so she asked. I thus replied:

You really want to know what happened? XXX's the dog that sits at the entrance to guard the whole college building, right? That was where the Administration Office used to be, right?

This is a true story (mid February 2009, I have the exact date and time written somewhere else). Otherwise, how the hell would I have known who Sick XXX is?

Being a part-time postgrad student, I rarely go to "this college". Even when I go to "this college", I'm usually in a daze due to work stress. One fine day, I realized that the Administration Office was no longer located where it used to be. And I had actually gone to "this college" that day to renew my expired student ID card.

All I did was ask for directions to where the Administration Office had been relocated but XXX ridiculed me for wearing jeans into the building. There's always a more polite way to talk to postgrad students, right? I really didn't know I shouldn't walk in wearing jeans because I was only supposed to be at "this college" for about 15 minutes (but I wasted more than 15 minutes listening to XXX ridiculing me and my clothes) and XXX chased me out from his office and told the guard to give me a VISITOR PASS and take my driving license eventhough I told him all I wanted was proper directions to the Administration Office to RENEW my student ID card. He even told me NOT to enter the building to look for my dissertation supervisor and rather call my supervisor to walk downstairs to talk to me. I DIDN'T PAY "THIS COLLEGE" SO MUCH MONEY TO BE ILL-TREATED THAT WAY!

I believe XXX is one of "this college's" more senior staff and he has smartly manouevred his way around in this organization, hence his amazing ability to say and do whatever he likes to anyone, right? So, I don't think there's anything that can be done about this no matter how much I complain because XXX has connections to the top-level people, right? I'm assuming it to be that way, otherwise he wouldn't have survived in "this college" for so many years.

XXX talks as though he's a woman going through menopause. Other possible explanations for his strange behaviour would be that of a VERY BAD childhood or that his wife keeps kicking him out from the bedroom.

Rest assured, I shall NEVER recommend "this college" to anyone after this. I've never had anything nice to say about "this college" ever since that very, very bad encounter with Bigshot XXX. Yes, F*CK "this college" (I'm VERY ANGRY and I very rarely swear).

I was just talking to a friend about dead animals being hurled into places of worship in Malaysia when she suddenly brought up the topic of how another friend used to be ill-treated by her father for not being born a boy.

Lily (actually her real name, 'cos I can't really stand her "Look at me! Look at me!" behaviour), is the fourth daughter born into a family made out of the dad, mum and three elder sisters.

On the day she was born, Lily's dad refused to look at her and her mother. He had expected Lily to have been born a boy. He had so wanted a son to carry on the family name in the many generations to come (it's a Chinese thing).

Perhaps due to the feeling of sheer neglect, Lily soon grew up and is now more successful than her other sisters.

Now, what perplexes me here is not why Lily wasn't born a boy. It's why Lily's dad couldn't even understand the most basic theory of reproduction in the field of biology.

Everyone knows that Mother X + Father Y = Boy and Mother X + Father X = Girl. The contributing factor from the mother's side will always be "X". It's the contributing factor from the father's side that's a bit unpredictable when it comes to determining the baby's gender.

If you end up getting all girls in your family, don't blame the mother and child.

And had you ended up getting twins or triplets, don't congratulate yourself too much either. This "strange" phenomenon wasn't entirely caused by you. Go figure, old man...

My father was just informed by another college employee that my letter was only mailed out on the day this BASKET college received my nasty email (two days ago). This means the college had been playing around with me all this while these past many weeks. They claimed to have sent out my letter when in fact, nothing's been sent out yet until only two days ago.

Yes, I just had to get my whole family involved in this little issue this time around. This can only happen when a college is not doing its work properly...

Tip to private college students: When extremely simple admissions/academic requests don't go your way and you are confident you're NOT at fault for being taken on an unnecessary joyride by certain college employees, please get your parents involved. I've dealt with many students' parents before, trust me.

Top tip of the day: College employees QUIVER and SHIVER at the sight of angry parents. And some employees risk getting fired if they're not careful (unless their bosses can't live without them). Remember this, kids.

*Please take this story lightly with a fistful of salt, even though I might sound slightly insane here…

The word “basket” is the Singlish or Manglish equivalent of a certain swear word that might refer to something “irregular, inferior, spurious, or unusual” (source). This shall be the word that I shall describe a certain college where I spent RM40,000 on for my postgraduate qualifications.

I shall not reveal the identity of this “basket college” just yet. When it is time for the college identity unveiling to be done, I hope many people will be made aware of the excruciatingly dismal services provided by this college which so happens to like to hog most of the prime advertizing spots in newspapers. I don’t want any of you to go through the same hellish experience I had been made to go through.

One month ago in December 2009, I politely requested for a simple graduate confirmation letter from this BASKET college. I had also requested to have the letter mailed to my house. The girl in charge of postgraduate administrative matters simply emailed me a soft copy of the letter with the reply :

Hi,

As requested.

What kind of a reply is this? I know you want to save time and don’t want to type out long sentences, but at least address your customer by name. That’s what I do all the time when I reply formal emails to anyone, unless I didn’t want to acknowledge the person properly due to certain mean reasons.

The letter I had requested for was meant to be used for certain foreign administrative matters. Christmas came and went. No sign of the letter through snail mail from this BASKET college. I can’t use the email version of the letter in the situation I am currently in because it won't be a valid document.

Just about a week ago, I sent another email to this silly college employee asking about the letter. Her amazing reply was:

Hi J,

I’ve sent it a few weeks back, quite surprised that you’ve not received it yet. I tell you what, you confirm your address with me again and I will send it out again today.

BASKET IDIOT! I tell you what, I have been in the education business long enough to know whether a BASKET college employee is lying to a student or not. I’ve been receiving irrelevant promotional materials from your BASKET college all this while. Now tell me why my important graduate confirmation letter has not arrived until today even after almost ONE MONTH already! You busy playing Facebook and uploading pictures of you and your boyfriend or what? I know what you’ve been doing through Facebook, you dumb monkey! And I don’t like people who use the phrase “I tell you what” because it sounds like something from a cheesy low-grade slasher movie. BASKET!

One week has just passed me by. I shot a short one-sentence email to the college once again, this time sounding far from friendly…

And the very immediate reply was that my letter had been sent to me a few days ago through registered mail.

Tip to private college students: When simple academic/admission requests don't go your way, throw a hissy fit. Breathe down the employees' necks if necessary. I've tried throwing tantrums after being too nice for too long, and I now see immediate results.

I had also been publicly humiliated before by one of the senior managers from this BASKET college for wearing expensive jeans into the college building. This BASKET college thinks it’s so F*CKING high-class they have to go around catching and humiliating students who walked in not realizing what they should or should not wear.

As a paying customer, I feel VERY VIOLATED by this BASKET college. I had been one of the so-called respected employees in the organization where I used to work in, especially when given a chance to sit on stage with important people during important events (and wear jeans into the conference room at one time). However, I get treated like SH*T the moment I became a postgraduate student of a certain BASKET college in the city even after paying all of my fees and not owing this BASKET college anything.

I just can’t believe how bling bling accessories that can be found in somewhat high-end Malaysian shopping malls can also be found in many other Asian countries… in street stalls… same quality… same materials… SO MANY TIMES CHEAPER!!!

This is starting to feel like a total rip-off, girls…

Picture above: Buy one of these for RM10 out there, bring it back to Malaysia and sell it for RM50 or more. Certain girls probably wouldn't mind the "slightly higher" price... What they don't know won't kill them...

I now wonder if these Malaysian shop owners got their goods from nearby Asian countries, only to mark-up those product prices manifold simply because they’re selling everything in nicer shops/boutiques back home.

These similar products are so much cheaper out there you could actually buy a whole truckload of them and open your own shop in Malaysia, selling everything by hiking up the prices ten times more...

Not only are these bling bling stuff, handbags, shoes and clothes cheaper in countries such as Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam… Even the kept women from such countries seem low-maintenance too… As in, they'd be happy to receive any pretty roadside trinket that's given to them.

Market stall

I was looking through row upon row of clothes at a dimly-lit market area, feeling each outfit’s material and remembering certain designs, when two middle-aged Chinese men walked into the same clothes stall. I couldn’t tell if they were Malaysians or Singaporeans from their familiar-sounding accents.

One of them held up a sexy-looking nightgown…

“Ah, how romantic. Must be for his wife back at home…” I thought, while minding my own business.

The two men continued with their conversation…

And the one holding and admiring the nightgown casually said, “My wife doesn’t have this kind of a body…”

He paid for the nightgown after that…

A dirt cheap nightgown from a dimly-lit market stall bought by a Big-time Cheapskate all for some cheap thrills while being away from his wife… But it could be a priceless gift to the poor girl who’s gonna receive that cheap piece of material from him… The country’s not a rich country and many people still live in poverty…

I've just watched "Avatar" thrice.
Unnecessary translation: three times. THREE TIMES. Something must be bothering me to be able to achieve this feat in just two days. TWO DAYS!

Lots of bombs and various objects destroyed in "Avatar". Lots of oppressed creatures too. Suits the mood and condition of a certain country this week- in many ways.

The last movie I've ever watched more than twice was "The Lion King". Seven times. And that was 16 years ago during a boring school holiday.

While watching "Avatar", flashbacks from my childhood days suddenly materialized in my mind. Watching "Avatar" was almost like meeting an old friend once again... from Disneyland...

Jake Sully + Neytiri

Perhaps it's only a coincidence that Jake Sully and John Smith share the same initials and the exact number of letters in their names. Perhaps it's also only a coincidence that Jake went to planet Pandora because of unobtainium, and John went to the New World because of gold. And both guys ended up falling in love.

It's unbelievable... "Pocahontas" was great, but "Avatar" took this storyline to a whole new level...

Now that you’ve taken all those manly attributes away, you’re left with something that looks pretty much like sissy nutcase Ratcliffe from “Pocahontas”, I suppose…

Malaysia- Whither Goest Thou?

Apart from CLEO and Harper's Bazaar, I also read magazines such as TIME and Newsweek.

The most recent issue of TIME magazine contains a very interesting article that immediately caught my attention (page 22, if you're also a subscriber). It's an article about racial discrimination in Hong Kong. Here's a little excerpt taken from that article:

Racism in the prosperous former British colony doesn't simmer into violence as it has in towns in northern England. Nor has it been institutionalized, as with laws that favor the ethnic majority in Malaysia.

Upon reading that sentence, I was like, "Oh wow. My country's famous..."

But then, it's not exactly a good thing when your country name had been mentioned in an article from an internationally-circulated magazine with a title that contains an ominous-sounding word: "The Racism Fighter".

Besides, the manner in which that sentence had been worded had not sounded particularly uplifting either.

The moods of many Malaysians have been unsurprisingly somber recently. Right before our eyes, we're seeing the country being slowly, but surely, torn into bits.

Back to that article from TIME magazine, the "racism fighter" in question is an unassuming woman by the name of Fermi Wong. She aptly quoted: "No one is born racist. Discrimination is learned."

'Tis a sad, sad time for many people out there in ~~North Korea~~ Malaysia.
